Board of Directors
President: Evan Holmes
President Elect: Vacant
Secretary: Lorene Irons
I am currently working in Moscow for the Moscow School District, as a para pro at Russell
and at Paradise Creek Regional High School as the Adjunct Social Science Teacher. I
worked for several years in California at a software company, in marketing and as a support
tech coordinator. I graduated from the University of Idaho with my B.A. in History in 2001
and with my Master in Conservation & Interpretation last spring, with certification in Special
Education and Social Sciences. I am currently working on my Masters in Special Education
and towards my Doctorate in Administration. I have a nine-year-old boy (C.J.) and I am
actively involved in Scouts with him for the past three years, not only as a Den Leader, but
also on committees and working on summer programs.
Treasurer: Matt Kitterman
Matt graduated from Coeur d'Alene HS in the Carter era. Following a stint in the military
and some years traveling, he returned to the U.S. and Idaho to attend the University of
Idaho in Moscow. After a long but undistinguished academic effort, Matt found work at the U.
I., where today he is employed in the classroom technology support department. Husband
and father of one, Matt enjoys all manner of self-powered outdoor pursuits.
Board Member: Kris Freitag
Botanist Kris Freitag, representing education at The Berry Botanic Garden, has been
fascinated with plants and their stories for over 20 years. Her heart is in the woods of the
Pacific Northwest, but she loves learning about the uses to which humans worldwide have
put plants over the millennia. She has worked in government research, the nursery trade,
and in environmental education, and it's always been about the plants and their people!
Board Member: Elise Ngo
I live in Seattle and work for Boeing as a cost analyst. I'm part of a negotiation team
directed to contract for parts for building the airplanes. I have a B.A. in Economics, a B.A. in
Environmental Studies, and an MBA in Finance. I love the outdoors and enjoy hiking and
backpacking.
Board Member: Eileen McGovern
Though she lives in Moscow Idaho, Eileen currently works as an attorney in Lewiston,
Idaho, having graduated from the University of Idaho Law School in 2006. She holds an
undergraduate degree in English and Philosophy. She is active in her community, having
been on the Board of Directors for the Moscow Civic Association, and now volunteers time
to help local residents facing various legal concerns.
When the weather is warm she can be found mountain-biking or hiking on Moscow
Mountain. In winter months she enjoys skiing and sledding with her children, Maggie (7) and
Quinn (4). She holds an abiding faith in the power of wilderness experience to shape and
enrich children’s lives.
Executive Director: Donal Wilkinson
Donal is the founder of Adventure Learning. Donal has had many occupations,
and most of them have revolved around education in some way. He has been an
outdoor school teacher, teacher trainer, and director; managed land for The
Nature Conservancy; been the assistant director of a non-profit tree planting
organization; a politician; managed a restaurant; firefighter / EMT; classroom
teacher; farmer; and general contractor. He is currently getting his National
Teaching Certificate and volunteers for the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Palouse as
well as serving as the Youth Advisor for the senior High School youth group. In his spare
time he is an actor, quilts and well… he really doesn’t have much spare time.
